Betsy was born on June 25, 1947, in Schenectady, New York, to Fred Sefcovic and Rose Machovic Sefcovic. Betsy and her beloved husband, Jack met in high school and were married
on June 14, 1969. Betsy was a lifelong learner who had BS, MS, Specialist and Doctoral degrees in Special Education. She completed her Doctoral work at George Washington University. When Betsy and Jack moved to Pinehurst in 2007, she studied to become a Master Gardener and devoted years tending to the beautiful gardens at First Health Hospice, from whom she received loving care in her final days. Betsy devoted her entire working career to Children with Special Needs, beginning at age 14 by volunteering at Sunnyview Childrens Rehab Center in Schenectady. Betsy served as a Teacher,
Administrator, Supervisor, and Professor in numerous local, state, and national settings. She finished her career as an in-house Consultant for the National Association of State Directors of
Special Education (NASDSE) focusing on the development and implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In Pinehurst, she was
an Officer of the College Club and a devoted member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Betsy is devoted to her family, her faith, and Children with Special Needs.

She is survived by Jack, her husband of 55 years, daughters Jean Ramsden and Kate Cichanowski, and son Matt Laflin. Her nine grandchildren are Chloe and Ella Cichanowski; Harmonie, Keegan, Bodie and Sawyer Ramsden; and Quinn, Henry, and Isla Laflin.
